Good to know
- inKind cash is not revenue. It’s a liability, like a gift card, until guests redeem the credits.
- The discount applies to food, beverage and sales tax, not tips. That’s why promo expense here is calculated on sales + tax only.
- You still owe the state the full sales tax on every inKind check, even though you were paid at a discount. That pushes the real cost above the headline discount.
- Reconcile every month. Your inKind Credit Liability should match the outstanding credits on inKind’s statement. Small differences get a true-up. Large ones need investigating, not adjusting.
- Audited financials? You may also need imputed interest on credits unredeemed past a year, and breakage on credits that will never be used. This tool doesn’t calculate either.
